“HR & Talent Dialogues: Multigeneration in the Workplace” is the first of its kind HR Conference hosted by the Executive Development Centre, Hang Seng Management College (HSMC-EDC). Supported by Department of Management, Student Affairs Office, Research Institute for Business, together with the 5 Schools and Advancement & Alumni Affairs Office, various Supporting Units and CTgoodjobs as the Media Partner, the conference was took place at HSMC on June 22 2018. Over 350 registrations were received and it was well attended by business executives, HR professionals and senior managers, as well as college freshmen, alumni and students amid the heavy rain.
Management, professionals and youngsters of different generations were invited to share their valuable experiences on “Multigeneration communication and management” issues, challenges and how different generations can operate with each other in the digital era, so as to play to their strength and build a harmonious team together.
In his welcoming remarks, President Simon Ho expressed his great gratitude for being able to meet with a group of distinguished guests and introduced the College development and objectives of HSMC. The conference included three panels. “How can we create a Harmonious Cross Gen Culture and its Impact” was hosted by Dr Victor Lau, Associate Professor and Associate Head, Department of Management of HSMC; Mr Sunny Wong, Adjunct Professor, Department of Management of HSMC and Executive Director, Tibet Water Resources Limited; Ms Scarlett Tsoi, Adjunct Lecturer of HSMC-EDC and Counsellor; Mr Jordan Cheung, Deputy General Manager, Global Marketing of Hong Kong Airlines Limited. The speakers shared their views on how to gain a better understanding on different generations’ thinking patterns and needs in order to achieve effective communication.
The second panel, “Best Practices on integrating New Gen Culture” was hosted by Dr Jimmy Jim, Head of Global Markets of ICBC (Asia) Limited; Mr Teddy Liu, General Manager, Corporate & Talent Development of New World Development Company Limited; Ms Eva Lo, Director of Knowledge Management of Cordis Hong Kong; Ms Maria Hui, Director, Human Resources of Microsoft Hong Kong Limited; Ms Janet Poon, General Manager, Human Resources of Hang Lung Properties Limited. Practical tips to integrate employees of different generations were discussed and shared.
The last panel, “What does the New Gen want?”, was hosted by Dr Henry Shiu, Committee Member of Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers and Honorary Guest Lecturer of HSMC-EDC; Mr Ronald Lee, Student, Bachelor of Business Administration of HSMC; Mr Alan Wu, Account Manager of ICG; Ms Elaine Shiu, Founder & Chief Brand Officer of Ejj Holding Limited. HSMC alumni shared on what they want and the rationales behind their thoughts, while more experienced participants got to know the needs of the New Gens.
The conference ended with an “Implications and What’s Next” session led by Ms Joanna Kwok, Director, HSMC-EDC. A lucky draw session was then held with 10 prizes, including two return flights from Hong Kong to Bangkok sponsored by Hong Kong Airlines (worth $8,000) ; two “World Dream” 3 Day 2 Night Double Deluxe Cruise Tickets sponsored by Dream Cruise (worth $6,720) ; two tickets for the “New Ideas on Cross Generation Management” Executive course by HSMC-EDC (worth $2,980 each) ; and copies of “The Value of Leadership” and “80課學懂HRM：人力資源管理的原理與實務指引” donated by Prof Ho and Dr Victor Lau.
The conference was concluded successfully with the enthusiastic participation and response of guests and students in the Q&A session, followed by a tea reception.
